Quotes you gotta love

Art is the most intense mode of individualism that the world has knownOscar Wilde

I want out of the labels. I don’t want my whole life crammed into a single word. A story. I want to find something else, unknowable, some place to be that’s not on the map. A real adventure. A spinx. A mystery. A blank. Unknown. Undefined  – Chuck Palahniuk

That is part of the beauty of all literature. You discover that your longings are universal longings, that you’re not lonely and isolated from anyone. You belong  – F. Scott Fitzgerald

Fly me to the moon, let me play among the stars Frank Sinatra

If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world – C.S. Lewis

Sometimes I wonder about my life. I lead a small life – well, valuable, but small – and sometimes I wonder, do I do it because I like it, or because I haven’t been brave? So much of what I see reminds me of something I read in a book, when shouldn’t it be the other way around? I don’t really want an answer. I just want to send this cosmic question out into the void. So good night, dear voidKathleen Kelly from You’ve got mail

The sky was different, without color, taut and unforgiving. But the water was the most unforgiving thing, nearly black at times, cold enough, I knew, to kill me, violent enough to break me apart. The waves were immense, battering rocky beaches without sand. The farther I went, the more desolate it became, more than any place I’d been, but for this very reason the landscape drew me, claimed me as nothing had in a long time. – Jhumpa Lahiri, ‘Unaccustomed Earth’

The only thing worth globalising is dissentArundhati Roy

Being a writer means taking the leap from listening to saying, “Listen to me.”Jhumpa Lahiri

I didn’t learn until I was in college about all the other cultures, and I should have learned that in the first grade. A first grader should understand that his or her culture isn’t a rational invention; that there are thousands of other cultures and they all work pretty well; that all cultures function on faith rather than truth; that there are lots of alternatives to our own society. Cultural relativity is defensible and attractive. It’s also a source of hope. It means we don’t have to continue this way if we don’t like it. – Kurt Vonnegut

He stepped down, trying not to look long at her, as if she were the sun, yet he saw her, like the sun, even without looking –  ‘Anna Karenina ‘ by Leo Tolstoy

The strength of women comes from the fact that psychology cannot explain us. Men can be analysed, women … merely adored – Oscar Wilde

If I found a job, a project, an idea or a person I wanted — I’d have to depend on the whole world. Everything has strings leading to everything else. We’re all so tied together. We’re all in a net, the net is waiting, and we’re pushed into it by one single desire – Ayn Rand’s ‘The fountainhead’

All right, I took the quiz, and it turns out, I do put career before men – Chandler Bing

Jhumpa Lahiri’s words are so true. What are your thoughts on that Annie?

If you’re talking about the one liner, then I’m gonna say I’m making a general assumption that most writers do keep a large part of their personality and fantasies to themselves. They listen and listen even when they have their own thoughts and stories just dying to be heard by someone. I’m not saying they are scared to share their real self but writing just gives a better shout.

Well, you’ve made quite a valid assumption Annie I would say. Even I feel the same way. Whenever reality becomes too difficult to digest, even I slip into the world of my mind. Its like they say, language is the means to communicate, whether ideas or opinions or plain nonsense.
